  4. Talented brass and percussion players from eight to 18 are invited to join the 80-strong National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain (NYBBGB) for a day.

    The free-of-charge Open Day will feature a master class by a leading brass musicians witg the chance to also hear the 80-strong NYBBGB rehearse, listen to the annual solo competition and the opportunity to participate in a question and answer session with the band’s Artistic Director, Bramwell Tovey, one of the world’s finest orchestral conductors.

    The young musicians will also have the opportunity to audition for either the NYBBGB or the band’s younger sibling, the National Children’s Brass Band of Great Britain (NCBBGB). Please contact Philip Biggs for further information

    The Open Day will be held at Taunton School in Somerset on 2 April. The NYBBGB, which is only open by audition, celebrated its 60th anniversary last year, where it performed at a series of prestigious concerts including the BBC Proms held at London’s Royal Albert Hall.

    Cadogan Hall and Queen Elizabeth Hall, the Snape Maltings, Bridgewater Hall, The Sage in Gateshead and BBC Radio 3.

    Open Day Co-ordinator, Martin Armstrong, Principal Horn with Brass Band of Battle Creek (USA), said: “We are looking attract and inspire talented youngsters to attend the band’s Open Day. Previous open days have been extremely successful, and we expect this Open Day to be no different.”

    The 80-strong NYBBGB holds two one-week intensive residential courses each year and the 56-strong NCBBGB holds an annual one-week intensive course. The NYBBGB is holding its Easter course at Taunton School, Somerset (30 March – 6 April) and its Summer course at Giggleswick School, North Yorkshire (3 – 10 August). Meanwhile, the NCBBGB is holding its annual course at Repton School (22 – 27 July). A second Open Day will be held during the NYBBGB’s summer residential course.

    Alumni include the 2008 Young Musician of the Year, trombonist Peter Moore, the current London Symphony Orchestra Principal Trumpet, Philip Cobb, former principal trumpet of the same orchestra, the legendary Maurice Murphy.

  10. Just listened to you at the Yeovil Entertainment Contest - I thought you were amazing - loved the version of the 1712!!! I am really glad that your percussionists won the prize - well done! If I am in Cornwall and see you playing, will definitely come and listen.
