Gail Constantine - 2nd Cornet

Sarah Wilton - 2nd Cornet

Anna Minear - 3rd Cornet

Sarah started playing the cornet in 2007 with the St Dennis Beginner Band when she just five years old.  She moved to Indian Queens Junior Band in May 2009 and progressed to the senior band in April 2011. Sarah has been performing regularly at music festivals and solo contests since 2008 but her first band contest was the West of England Bandsmen’s Festival at Bugle in 2013, where she performed with both Indian Queens’ Junior and Senior Bands.  In September 2013 she passed her audition for the Cornwall Youth Brass Band and also moved back to St Dennis, this time in the Youth Band.  Sarah moved to Bugle Silver Band at the beginning on 2014 and passed her Grade 4 Cornet exam with Distinction later that year.  In September 2015 she joined St Austell Youth Band and soon progressed to play Solo Cornet.  Sarah joined St Austell Town Band on 3rd Cornet in January 2016 and has since progressed to 2nd cornet. Sarah’s most memorable banding moment so far has been playing for Prince Charles and Camilla with Cornwall Youth Brass Band at Padstow in July 2016.

Ian began learning Cornet at the age of 7 with the City of Truro Band and during this time supplemented this with playing trumpet in various school ensembles.  At the age of 18 Ian joined Newquay band where he played front row and Soprano cornet for 5 years before giving up.  After a 10 year hiatus, Ian returned to playing with the Cornwall Returners Orchestra (now Cornwall Concert Orchestra) in 2013, later rejoining the City of Truro band in 2013 for 6 months on principal cornet. After helping St Stythians Band out for the 2013 summer season, he joined full time in September 2013.

Ian went to the Whit Friday Marches in May 2015 with St Austell Band and enjoyed it enough that he moved full-time to the band in January 2016 on back row cornet.  He moved into his favourite seat, Soprano, in the middle of 2016 and can often be found filling in on Sop with St Sythians Band.

Having grown up in a Brass Banding family, Anna started her playing career at the age of 11 with Kernow Brass Band. At the time she was one of three females in the male dominated band. Over the years Anna has moved with the band through it's various name changes until finally the band became the St Austell Town Band.

Anna is a player who will cover whatever position is required of her within the band and over the years has had performed on most instruments!

Highlights of Anna's brass banding career have included performing at the lower section finals in Birmingham Symphony Hall, performing the test piece 'Eden' at the 2005 Championship Section Finals in the Albert Hall, and winning the 'Royal Trophy' at Bugle Contest in 2008 and 2013.

Anna is a brass tutor for Cornwall Music Service Trust covering Mid, North and East Cornwall, and is also low brass tutor for Cornwall Youth Wind Orchestra. In addition to this Anna became the Musical Director of St Austell Youth Band in 2015. Anna’s main highlight with the Youth Band was winning the Youth Section at Bugle Contest in 2016. The challenge is to now repeat this in 2017!!
